Stopgap Dance Company

Artificial Things - Part of the Dance GCSE Syllabus

Slowly suffocating in each other’s company, a group of individuals seek escape in a bash of riotous rock-n-roll. However, their wild disorder descends into playground politics and reveals some uncomfortable truths. In this cinematic and evocative production Stopgap Dance Company creates a compact world of riddles that question our notions about unity and co-existence.

Dance Reading brings a new re-imagining of the renowned piece Artificial Things, with a live performance of the first scene, followed by a unique screening of the powerful film by Sophie Finnes, recently shown on BBC and filmed in an abandoned office building in Reading.

Stopgap Dance Company are a pioneering dance company, creating exhilarating productions for national and international touring. They employ disabled and non-disabled artists who find innovative ways to collaborate. Their full length production of Artificial Things (2014), gained so many accolades in Britain that it became part of the GCSE curriculum in secondary schools.
